How to Understand an Online University Assessment Rubric

A rubric is the most useful document in your course and the one students read last. Copy each criterion into a blank document, write what the top performance level requires in your own words, and use those as working headings. Draft under each heading. Before submitting, reread the rubric and tick off each criterion against your draft. Most low grades on strong writing come from a criterion that was never addressed, not from bad writing.
