How to Read an Assessment Rubric
Turn the scoring guide into a checklist before you write.
A rubric tells you exactly what is being marked. Copy each criterion into a document and use it as a heading. Under each one, write what the highest level of performance requires in your own words. Draft against those headings, then remove the headings only if the assignment says not to use them. Anything not in the rubric is optional; anything in it is not.
